Cat Burglar

Yesterday we came home about 4 pm from running errands and the front door was open about 2 feet. We looked around for intruders to see if anyone was in the apartment. Noone here so we locked the door and settled in for the night. This morning at 4 am I woke to hear strange noises from the living room. It sounded like crinkling plastic or candy wrappers. I woke up Brian and said "Listen". He got out of bed and got dressed and we looked for some sort of weapon. I hid in the bathroom where we have a phone. I was ready in case I heard something indicating I should call 911. Brian went out to search for the noisy intruder.

I sat on the edge of the bathtub thinking how someone could have gotten in the house. I thought, "you know I don't remember checking the sliding glass doors to see if they were locked. Someone may have come in the house yesterday, opened the glass doors and then left thinking that they could easily get back in the dark."

About 3 minutes later, Brian came and told me it was safe to come out. He was holding a leatherman tool with the knife unfolded. He had captured the intruder in the second bedroom. The door was now shut and I didn't hear anything.

We opened the front door to let the intruder escape when we opened the bedroom door. We opened the bedroom door and looked in. I didn't see the intruder until I got down and looked at him hiding under the bed. He was hairy and had pretty green eyes. He came darting out from under the bed and ran towards the kitchen. He sat up on the ledge and cried. He was such a pretty grey KITTY! He was very scared. He saw the escape route and made a run for it. He got half way down the path when he looked back one last time at his captors.

We looked around for what might have caused the noise and decided it was probably a bag of chocolates on the kitchen counter. Poor thing must have been hungry and scared hiding under the bed for 12 hours. Maybe we'll see him around the neighbourhood again one day.
