The Vegas area has a few interesting sites other than the bright lights. A few miles West of the city is a National Conservation Area called Red Rock Canyon.

Broad daylight is probably the best time to go since the sun goes behind the mountains fairly early. But when the sun is shinging, the rock mountains are orange-red. I imagine they get their color from oxidized iron in the rock just like Uluru - Ayers Rock in Australia.

I threw in the last picture of me in my younger days. I went rock climbing here in Red Rock Canyon with a few friends in about 1992.
