The
Vegas Strip
First
things first. The one thing that makes Vegas different from any city
in the world is the famous Las Vegas Boulevard (a.k.a. "The Strip").
The biggest hotels have literally thousands of rooms. Each hotel has
a unique theme. This variety is a necessity since, on the inside, the
casinos are virtually all the same except for the minimum they allow
you to bet. Walking down the street, you see a giant pyramid, a recreation
of the Eiffel Tower (half size), the New York skyline (complete with
a Statue of Liberty), a recreation of Venice (complete with singing
gondoliers), a volcano, and an unimaginable number of lights.
My favorite attraction in all of Vegas is the Bellagio fountain. The
re-creations in town are nice but the fountain is an original work
of art. It shoots up from a man made lake in front of the Bellagio
hotel.
If you
are walking by the lake at the top of the hour, wait for it. Music
plays
from many
hidden speakers near the sidewalk. From out of a calm lake, jets
of water shoot up at various angles and heights, all choreographed
with the music. It is particularly enjoyable when they play beautiful
classical music.
Lest I sugar coat it: My least favorite part of walking around the
strip is the abundance of people trying to hand you flyers for strip
shows. The last picture has 13 people in it. Seven are walking by and
six are handing out flyers.
