Many communities in The Woodlands have little ponds between the houses. Often in the middle, there’s one little fountain glowing.

Tree in Red Center of Australia
A big rock formation in the middle of the Australian outback was the Olgas. There was a moderately difficult hike that takes you through a canyon between the giant red rocks. It was so hot and dry that it was against the law to start the hike after 11am.

Working by Lake Woodlands
The Woodlands has a growing business community. Here, everyone is still working and the sun has already set over Lake Woodlands. It’s winter so, by the time the sun is down, it’s going on 7pm. Time to go home, people.

Wildflowers and a Bee
It’s the middle of February in Houston, and the wildflowers are already in full bloom. The bees are so busy they don’t even notice you getting in close for a portrait. This bee looks like he’s just reporting to work in the morning and indeed they were working hard.
Watch out wandering in the tall grasses and flowers though. There are ant mounds down under there. They were not happy at all with me stomping around. Ah well… It was worth it.
Angkor Thom, Cambodia
Back in June of 2003, we took a trip to Cambodia. We were in the area of the country called Siem Reap (pronounced SEE-um REE-up).
Angkor Thom is an ancient walled-in city with a temple called the Bayon that has 54 towers. Each tower has stone carved faces looking in all directions. Depending on who you listen to, the face is a depiction of the king or it’s a composite of the kings face and the serene face of Buddha. (It’s the same face in every carving). No one knows why they made so many.
Climbing on and around these ruins was a good test of how “sure-footed” you are. The Bayon is partially restored.
Under the Green Canopy
In downtown Houston, there are areas with great old trees forming archways over the roads and walkways. It’s a great place for a morning jog or just a stroll.

Houston Buildings
Wandering around downtown Houston, there are some rounded buildings covered in windows. On a clear day, they are sky blue with a reflection of the neighboring buildings. Note: They don’t really like you taking pictures of their business so just stay in public areas where you’re allowed to take as many pictures as you like.

Marsh Bridge in Illinois
A cool but clear day in Illinois was a great day to explore the marsh. A slight breeze breathed through the tall grasses. The floating walkway creaked and shifted ever so slightly while walking on it.

Late Fall in Illinois
All the trees were dormant. The sun was all but missing behind grey skies. The cold had set in and the only thing left was to wait it out. Snow was on it’s way. Ready for a long winter in Illinois.

Into the Dark
Here’s another view from a few nights ago when I was up at “oh dark thirty”. It was worth it to me, although I think it took me two days to fully recover.
