Newborn fun

The joys of parenthood have begun. In the very first days of his life at the hospital, I experienced a rite of passage into fatherhood. I opened up his diaper and got squirted right in the middle of my glasses. Score one for Alex.

My favorite moment at the hospital was on the second day. Alex was crying and fussing while I was holding him. I decided to sing to him. He stopped crying and listened. While I sang, "Somewhere, Beyond the Sea" he opened his eyes and looked at me. I sang through the whole song, gently bouncing him in rhythm. As I got near the end of the song, his eyes drooped. As I finished the song, he fell asleep.

Another fun time with Alex is reading to him. I was surprised that he would even look at the book. But, I hold a book in front of him. I read it to him and he looks at it, and looks at me, and listens happily. Maybe it gives him some nice images to stimulate his brain and practice focusing his eyes. He probably enjoys an animated voice, too.
