Christmas Leaf

Merry Christmas!  This ornament is one of our prettiest.  It’s delicate and intricate.  It’s metal but you can see through it.  Lastly, I’m sure it reminds Andrea of home in Canada.  I hope you have a great day wherever you are.

Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

The Woodlands has a great concert venue.  It’s an amphitheater called The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.   We attended concerts by the Houston Symphony and by “Maroon 5″, Train, and John Mayer that filled it to it’s 17,000 capacity. Most recently, we went there for a Children’s festival.

This picture shows the canopy over the seats.  At the end of the Children’s Festival day, I managed to get this shot before they kicked us out.

Cypress Trio

My two boys and I went wandering around with our cameras in the forest.  The terrain her provided an excellent setting for their impromptu adventure playing.  Which was a perfect time for me to set up a nice shot.  The trunk of these “Bald Cypress” trees flare out in cool patterns.  Also, those “knees” sticking up next to them are part of the tree.

Deep Forest Sunset

This is my last photo to share from the World Wide Photo Walk.  In fact, it was the last shot of the day.  I thought I was done.  I was just waiting for other photographers to stroll out of the forest so we could all go to dinner.  Then I saw the sun peeking through the trees one last time before all the woods were in dusk.

This photo won “Best Photo for this Location” in the Spring, Texas version of the World Wide Photo Walk.

Eating at The Woodlands Mall

October evenings are a perfect time to eat out on a restaurant patio in The Woodlands, Texas.  The Woodlands Mall has a few restaurants with outdoor eating.  This one is right on the waterway.  And this year, since it has been so dry, there are not many bugs.

Scott Kelby’s World Wide Photo Walk

On Oct 1st 2011, Scott Kelby had his annual World Wide Photo Walk.  It takes place in cities all over the world.  Our local version was in a forest in The Woodlands, TX.

I had never been on a photo walk. It was kind of an odd experience. A bunch of strangers all met at the head of a trail that leads into the forest.  When we headed out, I felt like I needed to be inspired – right now. But, there wasn’t really that much that I was excited about shooting at that point.

I met some photographers of widely varying skill levels.  All of them were very friendly which made the whole day out fun regardless of the pictures.

Eventually, I got into a groove and found some interesting forest items.  This fungus was the first thing I came across.  More to come.

Painting a pond in The Woodlands

It was a nice morning for art by the pond. The Woodlands has nice little community ponds that add to the homeyness.  And of course, being The Woodlands, they’re surrounded by trees.

So, I headed out and met a nice woman enjoying the scenery. I hope to see her painting on display at a local gallery. I’m sure we’ll meet again.

If you click on this picture, you’ll get to see the painted effect better.  Here, it’s too small to see.

Sailing Lake Woodlands

The Woodlands has a nice little lake attached to it’s “Woodlands Waterway”.  There’s a playground park next to the water.  People feed the ducks (but they’re not supposed to).  It’s a nice peaceful place to hang out.
