Wildflowers and a Bee

It’s the middle of February in Houston, and the wildflowers are already in full bloom. The bees are so busy they don’t even notice you getting in close for a portrait. This bee looks like he’s just reporting to work in the morning and indeed they were working hard.

Watch out wandering in the tall grasses and flowers though. There are ant mounds down under there. They were not happy at all with me stomping around. Ah well… It was worth it.

Angkor Thom, Cambodia

Back in June of 2003, we took a trip to Cambodia. We were in the area of the country called Siem Reap (pronounced SEE-um REE-up).

Angkor Thom is an ancient walled-in city with a temple called the Bayon that has 54 towers. Each tower has stone carved faces looking in all directions. Depending on who you listen to, the face is a depiction of the king or it’s a composite of the kings face and the serene face of Buddha. (It’s the same face in every carving). No one knows why they made so many.

Climbing on and around these ruins was a good test of how “sure-footed” you are. The Bayon is partially restored.

In downtown Houston, there are areas with great old trees forming archways over the roads and walkways. It’s a great place for a morning jog or just a stroll.

Houston Buildings

Wandering around downtown Houston, there are some rounded buildings covered in windows. On a clear day, they are sky blue with a reflection of the neighboring buildings. Note: They don’t really like you taking pictures of their business so just stay in public areas where you’re allowed to take as many pictures as you like.

Marsh Bridge in Illinois

A cool but clear day in Illinois was a great day to explore the marsh. A slight breeze breathed through the tall grasses. The floating walkway creaked and shifted ever so slightly while walking on it.

Late Fall in Illinois

All the trees were dormant. The sun was all but missing behind grey skies. The cold had set in and the only thing left was to wait it out. Snow was on it’s way. Ready for a long winter in Illinois.

Chapel in The Woodlands United Methodist Church

In The Woodlands United Methodist Church, there are several sanctuaries. This tiny room holds about 20 people. As you sit in the candle light, you can hear far off Gregorian chants.

The Woodlands Waterway Holidays

The bridge at the Woodlands Waterway is nicely lit up for the holidays. Also, the trees all along the waterway are meticulously decorated with lights wrapping the trunks and spreading up into the tree. It’s a great place for a peaceful evening stroll.

Here are my top 10 photos from 2011. Some of them have not been shown on “Adventures with Andrea”, yet. Like, this first one…

1. I caught this hummingbird in my backyard. He was hovering and staring longingly at the almost empty glass feeder.

2. While shooting at a local pond, I met a painter. I was inspired to try my first attempt at “paintography”.

3. Here’s another that has not been on Adventures with Andrea. A super closeup of a match reaching the end of it’s life…

4. At the end of a long day in the forest, the last view of the sun was blazing through the trees. And, a little lens fairy visited me…

5. A moody image of the sun barely making it through the clouds on a cold winter day.

6. A local eatery on a warm summer night…

7. Another new one that you’ve never seen (if you don’t follow my Google Plus Profile). A melancholy image of a flower past it’s prime…

8. Exploring the local neighborhood, I loved shooting this fountain. I’m not sure how I missed putting this on Adventures with Andrea…

9. I really pushed the look of this one to make a beautiful old looking corridor for your eyes to wander…

10. Finally, I finished up the year with a nice ornament picture…
