Don't go here! If you drive on these roads, your rental car contract will be voided. -That's what the map says that the car rental companies hand out. I have a couple guesses why:

1. The roads used to be in poor condition and ruining the car is an old concern that they haven't updated since the roads have been imporved..
2. The rental company thinks you can't handle cliffside one-lane roads.
3. They want to limit the number of tourists that travel the one lane roads to avoid gridlock that would happen all too easily.

Anyway, we drove on the roads to the north of the west side of Maui. If peering over a cliff as you back down a one lane road makes you queezy, then yes, avoid this area.

There were, however, some stunning views that made it worth the trip for us.
