Johnson
Space Center
NASA's
Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center is the major employer of note in Southeast
Houston. The public tour is probably most interesting for engineers,
space buffs or kids. Being the first and, at heart, the last, I enjoyed
it quite a bit.
A lot of what you get to see is historical. On display are old rockets
from the early days of the space program. The tram tour takes you through
the old control center.
There are some modern things that you get to see. There's the full
size mockup of the space shuttle where they can test things before
they
actually
go
into
space. Many other mockups were on display as well as the "Canada
Arm" (a
robotic arm that astronauts use to move things outside the shuttle).
The last photo shows a recent space suit but there was a display of
the history of space suits that included many that looked quite low
tech.
