A nice get away within the city is Memorial Park. There are many acres of protected forest. Some is set aside for joggers and walkers. My favorite part is the area that is designated as a wildlife preserve. They don't even allow picnics or joggers. It is just pristine forest (with some trails for walking through).

There is also a pretty pond with lots of lilly pads and interesting bugs.
