Monkey

Friendly Elephant

Singapore Zoological Gardens

The Singapore Zoo is by far the most amazing zoo I have ever seen (yes, I have been to the San Diego Zoo). Not one animal was behind bars and there was rarely any glass between the animal and the visitor. Instead, large areas of the wilderness are sectioned off for the animals to live in. People just walk on paths between the living spaces. Often there was a moat to keep the animals from reaching the people.

But, the most amazing part was that one can get so close to so many of the animals. Monkeys of many types just roam around the zoo - not caged at all. The top picture shows a small monkey that we met as we entered the zoo. It just climbed out of the tree and was sitting on top of a zoo sign.

In the second picture, another uncaged animal, walks across the path. I think it's an anteater.

In the third picture, Andrea meets an elephant. Although elephants are not roaming free, you could reach right out and touch it's trunk.
