Atop the Doi Suthep Mountain is Wat Phra Doi Suthep. A long stairway decorated with snakes leads up to the entrance.

It is one of the more beautiful Wats. There are dozens of buddha statues (as all wats have).

The story behind this temple is that the king declared that a new temple location was needed for a special relic. The relic was placed on a white elephant who would pick the place. The elephant wandered up into the hills. Eventually it stopped and died. That location became the home of the new temple.
